It took me about 1 hour to turn up with this shape and about 2 hours to make up my mind what gradient should I use.
So I chose about 4 gradients and made at the end two renders:
the Black Widow ([link]) and the Explosion.

Change the render settings to quality/density 4000 * filter radius 2 * oversample 1 and bring the size/resolution down to something in the range of 960 x 960 for a square or 1280 x 960 for a rectangle (swap the dimensions for landscape & portrait modes). You can print an 8 x 10 or 9 x12 from the second rectangular set. If you decide later on a bigger print size you can re-render. At 1280 x 960 a render runs 1.5 hrs +/- depending on what else your doing at the same time.
